I think that now my next spotting day will be in December because there is no traffic at Faro. Winter…
So during this weekend, after my saturday spotting, someone told me that there would be a surprise movement at Faro.
I wandered what could be and hurried today to the airport to find: Finnair MD11!! It’s going to be retired from the Finnair fleet until January 2010 so the highlight of the year for Faro Airport is here.

Perante uma época dominada pela contracção e consequente retracção na aposta das companhias aéreas em novas rotas e destinos, o aeroporto de Faro avança com precaução nas previsões para os próximos tempos. Prudência essa que leva António Correia Mendes, director da infra-estrutura, a antecipar que este é um ano para manter os mercados com os quais Faro tem ligações. “Não me parece que a conjuntura esteja muito propícia a que se avance para muitos mercado novos”, lembra o responsável. “É tentar manter, tentar crescer para os mercados com os quais já estamos familiarizados”, acrescenta ainda, salientando que neste momento “a diversificação é um pouco difícil”.
A mesma linha de pensamentos faz com que António Correia Mendes avance que não é esperado um aumento exponencial de ligações durante este Verão. “Não pensamos ter muitas, mas a Ryanair vai abrir Bournemouth e Bremen”, conta. A primeira vai ocupar o espaço deixado pela Thomsonfly – que operava a rota sazonalmente – enquanto que a segunda ligação é “totalmente nova”.
Resta saber quantas rotas ficaram ou vão ficar para trás. “Não tenho noção dessa situação”, responde o director do aeroporto, que não perspectiva o fim de rotas para Faro. Excepção apenas para a suspensão da ligação entre a cidade algarvia e Liverpool operada pela Ryanair. “Mas para nós a rota mantém-se, continuamos a ter Liverpool-Faro”, salienta, lembrando que também a easyJet faz a ponte entre as duas cidades.
Faro escapa ileso
De volta a uma eventual perda de ligações, António Correia Mendes refere que tem-se assistido a uma situação em que as companhias aéreas ocupam os lugares deixado pelas suas congéneres. “Estou a ver algumas companhias a apresentarem saída e outras a ocuparem espaço e a manterem a ligação”, conta. “Se falarmos de origens de destinos, Faro não está a ser afectado”, realça ainda.
A dinamarquesa Sterling – que em finais de Outubro fechou portas – é um exemplo prático desta tendência. “A Sterling faliu, era responsável pela rota Copenhaga-Faro e a Transavia assumiu essa rota”, recorda António Correira Mendes. “A nossa análise faz-se mais pelo binómio origem-destino e não temos sido afectados”, sublinha.
Do tráfego regular do aeroporto, entre 50 a 60 por cento é tráfego low cost. À partida, Faro poderia estar mais sujeita aos dissabores provocados pela conjuntura e que levam companhias a fecharem portas. Mas essa situação não assusta António Correia Mendes. “Vejo é companhias charter a falirem”, solta, dando o exemplo da Futura e da XL. “Ainda não vi companhias a falir, só a Sterling”.
O aeroporto chegou ao final do ano passado com menos 20 mil passageiros a passarem pela infra-estrutura, ou seja, uma diminuição de menos meio ponto percentual. Os números levam Correia Mendes a dizer que “a capacidade e a procura de Faro está sustentada”. Sem entrar em considerações de futurologia, o director salienta que o aeroporto tem mantido um bom comportamento num contexto internacional. “Não me parece que essa situação se altere dramaticamente”, defende, justificando que “as companhias, quando fazem o seu assessment sobre rotas vão tentar manter aquelas que têm um comportamento mais estabilizado”.
Aeroporto vai para obras
Este é também o ano em que arrancam as obras de ampliação e melhoramento do aeroporto de Faro. O investimento – que ronda os 130 milhões de euros – começa a ser aplicado já no domingo, com o arranque da primeira fase da empreitada.
“[As obras] vão permitir dar resposta a uma série de problemas que se prevê que venham a ocorrer no curto prazo e alguns que já ocorrem actualmente”, comenta o director do aeroporto, lembrando que quando o aeroporto foi construído “o Algarve e o aeroporto eram dominados pelo tráfego charter”. A natureza dos movimentos registados alteraram-se radicalmente e actualmente grande parte dos passageiros chega até Faro via uma companhia regular.
Os números avançados por António Correia Mendes apontam para que 70 por cento do tráfego seja regular e os restante 30 por cento charter. “Isso implica mais movimentos para registar o mesmo número de passageiros, o que implica também que estes passageiros tenham um modo de aceder ao aeroporto completamente diferente”, conta, referindo que agora assiste-se a um aumento de deslocações de e para o aeroporto em veículos próprios ou em rent-a-car. Outras alterações prendem-se com os horários dos voos. “Há horários de chegada completamente dispersos, contra a concentração que havia nos charters”, explica a mesma fonte, salientando que “era preciso dar resposta a esta nova realidade”.
Actualmente, a capacidade do aeroporto de Faro é de seis milhões de habitantes, sendo que o ano passado fechou o ano com 5,3 milhões de passageiros. Com estas obras, o limite passa a ser de oito milhões. Um número que pode ser sustentável até 2022 ou 2025.
Da parte das companhia aéreas a notícia foi bem recebida, até porque as obras não deverão ser um entrave às operações. “Não lhes vai afectar a margem de manobra e não decorrerão mais encargos para as companhias”, assegura o director.
Obras terminam em 2013 – Aeroporto de cara lavada
A primeira fase das obras começa no domingo e termina no segundo semestre de 2011. Neste período, a empreitada vai incidir sobre as áreas operacionais. A segunda fase inicia-se no começo de 2011 e deverá terminar no final de 2013. Esta última etapa será para melhorar o terminal e os acessos. Durante esta intervenção vão ser ser criadas construídos mais taxiways (o que permite aumentar o número de voos por hora) e realizadas algumas intervenções no próprio terminal, de forma a melhorar áreas públicas de espera do lado terra; revitalizar, reformular e ampliar as áreas de retalho e, por último, reformular as acessibilidades.

Faro airport, situated in Portugal’s ever-popular Algarve region, is to undergo a major expansion, which could be good news for property investors…
The expansion will see its capacity increase from six million passengers a year to eight million by 2013, at a cost of around €130m (£114m).
Faro airport authorities report that the work will enable the airport to increase the number of flights possible per hour from the current 22 to 30.
Rising demand
The news could spur the Algarve property market, as increased tourism figures is likely to lead to a rise in demand for property in Algarve to buy and rent.
“This project is part of a team effort between us, the national and regional tourism boards,” says Guilhermino Rodrigues, the president of airport management company, Ana Aeroportos. “It is part of our mission to improve the Algarve as a destination, reducing seasonality and diversifying the market.”
Construction work, which is due to get underway next month, will be divided into two phases, with completion earmarked for the tail end of 2013.

ANA, SA investe 130 milhões de euros em Projecto de Desenvolvimento
Infra-estrutura existente
A actual infra-estrutura do Aeroporto de Faro (AFR) foi dimensionada para processar até 6 milhões de passageiros por ano atendendo às características da procura e requisitos técnico-operacionais existentes à data (1982/85):
• Tráfego quase exclusivamente charter;
• Inexistência de restrições ambientais, permitindo uma operação 24h.
Evolução da procura
Desde os finais dos anos 90, verifica-se uma substancial alteração da estrutura de tráfego no AFR, muito em resultado da emergência das companhias regulares de baixo custo (low cost). De um modo sucinto poder-se-á dizer que o AFR se caracteriza agora por:
• tráfego maioritariamente regular (cerca de 70%), preponderantemente low cost, mas também full service carrier;
• uma dispersão nos tempos de chegada e de partida do aeroporto por parte dos passageiros, agora maioritariamente passageiros independentes bem como o surgimento de meeters and greeters no aeroporto.
Cumulativamente, neste período verificou-se também uma importante tendência de imposição de restrições ambientais (ruído) à operação na generalidade dos aeroportos emissores e no próprio AFR. Os aeroportos na sua generalidade impuseram restrições de operação nocturna, com a consequente concentração das operações em faixas horárias diárias o que limita a utilização da totalidade da capacidade dos aeroportos.
Num outro plano, em resultado das diferentes evoluções dos requisitos inscritos no Anexo 14 à Convenção de Chicago e da nova regulamentação Comunitária sobre security, surgem como prioritárias as necessidades de adequação da infra-estrutura aeroportuária aos requisitos normativos e legislativos que impendem sobre os aeroportos.
OS OBJECTIVOS DO PROJECTO
É a urgência de dar resposta a estes desafios estratégicos corporizados numa clara estratégia comercial vocacionada para o incremento do tráfego regular, aliada à necessidade de dar resposta à evolução perspectivada do tráfego em Faro, à indispensabilidade de melhores desempenhos das áreas comerciais, particularmente do Retalho e à vontade de rejuvenescer a infra-estrutura existente já com perto de 20 anos, que justificam o presente conjunto de investimentos. Assim, foi equacionado um conjunto de investimentos que permitirão:
1.Dar resposta à procura de tráfego, caracterizada por um maior número de movimentos de cariz marcadamente regular, através da ampliação da área de Plataforma e da construção de novos taxiways que permitirão incrementar o número de movimentos por hora do AFR.
2.Implementar as infra-estruturas que permitirão, por um lado, tornar o AFR totalmente conforme com os requisitos do Anexo 14 e, por outro lado, assegurar o aumento dos níveis de safety no AFR através da implementação de uma operação CATI na sua pista 10.
3.Realizar intervenções no Terminal, atentas as suas características arquitectónicas e de decoração, que permitam:
a – adequar as suas características funcionais à nova tipologia de tráfego (necessidade de disponibilização de áreas públicas de espera no Lado Terra);
b – revitalizar, reformular e ampliar as áreas de retalho, as quais apresentam uma configuração constante desde 2001.
c – reformular as acessibilidades lado Terra, adequando-as ao novo paradigma de tráfego (utilização crescente de modos de transporte independente) e, simultaneamente, ao novo layout do edifício.
4.Este projecto foi desenvolvido pela equipa liderada pelo arquitecto João Leal, Director de Infra-Estruturas Aeronáuticas da ANA, com o apoio do gabinete de arquitectura CHAPMAN TAYLOR (cujo último projecto aeroportuário foi o Terminal 5 de Heathrow) para os arranjos interiores do Terminal;

A easyJet lançou uma nova rota Faro-Paris. Os voos começam em Julho, mas já é possível efectuar reservas.
A easyJet vai voar três vezes por semana de Faro para Paris, a partir de 11 de Julho, a partir de 31,99 euros, por trajecto com taxas incluídas.
As reservas estão disponíveis desde dia 4 de Fevereiro no site da companhia em www.easyJet.com. Os voos são acontecem às quartas-feiras, sábados e domingos.

Hello. So I was invited to the last spotting of this year as it is becoming usual at Faro.
The weather was awful, not so many planes but my highlight goes to the 2 British Airways A319 here.
At Faro where also and not spotted: Norwegian, bmibaby, flyglobespan, Thomson Airways, TAP Portugal CS-TTS (new aircraft in the fleet), easyJet G-EZDW (new aircraft in the fleet) and TACV D4-CBG (diverted from Lisbon).
Also interesting to see was the falcon of Faro, and a big thanks to my friend Hugo who made the “falcon spotting” possible by bringing one near the airport fence.

Aer Lingus abre base em Gactwick e lança voo para Faro

A companhia de baixo custo irlandesa vai abrir a sua primeira base operativa, fora da Irlanda, no aeroporto londrino de Gatwick, o que vai criar 120 novos postos de trabalho. Esta novidade representa um investimento de 114 milhões de euros.A Aer Lingus vai começar com quatro aparelhos A320 neste aeroporto, mas o objectivo é duplicar o número de aviões no prazo de 12 meses. Ao final deste tempo, a transportadora espera ter transportado 2,5 milhões de passageiros. Outros objectivos apontam para quem num futuro não tão próximo, sejam operadas rotas de longo curso a partir desta base londrina.
O anuncio da base vem também acompanhado do lançamento de novas rotas, com partidas de Gatwick. São elas para Málaga, Munique, Niza, Viena, Knok, Faro e Zurique.
No caso de Faro, são duas as frequências que arrancam a 26 de Abril. Assim, os voos saem de Faro às 09h25 e às 20h45 (chegada prevista às 12h10 e 23h30, respectivamente). No sentido inverso saem de Gatwick às 05h50 e às 17h20 (chegada prevista às 08h45 e às 20h05, respectivamente).
“As operações em Gatwick vêm complementar os nossos serviços existentes fora de Londres Heathrow, e posicionar a Aer Lingus para o crescimento à medida que abrimos novas rotas e bases nos anos futuros”, comentou Dermot Mannion, CEO da transportadora, sobre este projecto.
Ao apostar em Gatwick, a Aer Lingus vai confrontar-se com um concorrente de peso, trata-se da easyJet..

So on 21st of December 1992 the tragedy happened in Faro Airport. A Martinair Holland DC10 crashed while on final approach to Faro.
The weather was bad, heavy rain and strong winds all over the Algarve. The runway was flooded. So many other things that I can’t remember…
Many specialists and many opinions had been formed….
This post is to remember all who had died, all who had survived. RIP for those who died, and my condolences to their families and friends.

O julgamento do “caso Martinair”, relativo ao acidente aéreo ocorrido em Faro em 1992 em que houve 56 mortos e mais de 100 feridos, só deverá recomeçar em Janeiro de 2009, segundo os autos do processo no Tribunal Administrativo de Lisboa.
O julgamento começou no início de Setembro, mas logo após as primeiras sessões foi suspenso a pedido dos advogados da Martinair, com o consentimento das restantes partes. Esta interrupção afectou a programação das datas para a realização das audiências de julgamento, estando a juíza presidente do colectivo a tentar reagendar as mesmas para Janeiro próximo.
A juíza Guida Jorge, após contactar os advogados das partes, concluiu que “não se afigura ser possível o reagendamento das sessões de julgamento para Novembro, por parte do Tribunal, dado já estarem agandadas outras diligências”.
Relativamente a Dezembro, a juíza refere que “existem alguns dias disponíveis”, mas que, contudo, “não foi possível conciliar esses mesmos dias com os ilustres mandatários, pelo que é consentâneo, entre os vários intervenientes contactados, que apenas será possível o reagendamento (das sessões) em Janeiro” de 2009.
Para o efeito, os mandatários das partes “comprometem-se a vir indicar ao Tribunal os dias e/ou os períodos” em que as testemunhas “terão disponibilidade” para depor.
O processo em julgamento foi interposto pela companhia de aviação Martinair e respectiva seguradora, que solicitam um pagamento de 125 milhões de euros à Aeroportos de Portugal (ANA) e às companhias de seguros Tranquilidade, Império e Global Seguros. Em causa está o apuramento de responsabilidades e eventual pagamento de indemnizações.
Até ao momento só foram ouvidas as testemunhas chamadas pela Martinair, incluindo peritos internacionais em meteorologia e o último comandante do voo que aterrou antes do acidente.
A Martinair, representada pelo advogado Magalhães e Silva, alega que a tripulação do voo MP 495 acidentado em Dezembro de 1992 não recebeu informação atempada e correcta da torre de controlo do Aeroporto de Faro.
Os advogados da ANA/Aeroportos e Navegação, que é ré no processo, tem vindo a contestar alguns dados técnicos apresentados pela autora da acção e manifestaram-se contra a junção aos autos de um documento em suporte vídeo contendo a reconstituição do acidente, que classifica de “representação visual dotada de um certo dramatismo”.
Dos autos resulta, também, que há divergência das partes em relação à intensidade do vento na pista 11 do Aeroporto de Faro.
O acidente ocorreu no Aeroporto de Faro com um avião DC-10 do operador Martinair Holland, a 21 de Dezembro de 1992, com 340 pessoas a bordo, das quais 13 pertenciam à tripulação do aparelho, conforme consta do relatório do acidente.
Ainda de acordo com o relatório 22/ACCID/GPI/92, do Gabinete de Prevenção e Investigação de Acidentes com Aeronaves, o acidente vitimou 56 pessoas e mais de 100 feridos.

Falha informática lança o caos nos aeroportos britânicos
Centenas de voos foram esta quinta-feira cancelados no Reino Unido devido a uma falha informática no principal centro de controlo de tráfego aéreo do país, e as aterragens registam longos atrasos
A falha ocorreu no sistema informático do centro de controlo de tráfego de Swanwick, nos arredores de Londres, e está a levar o caos nos principais aeroportos.
Segundo a BBC, os controladores aéreos estão a ter dificuldade em identificar os aviões que se situam em altitudes elevadas, o que está a atrasar os procedimentos de aterragem e descolagem.
Em Heathrow, um dos aeroportos mais movimentados do mundo, só se autoriza uma descolagem a cada cinco minutos, quando em circunstâncias normais descola um avião a cada 90 segundos. Em Luton, todas as partidas foram canceladas.
Os voos mais afectados pelos cancelamentos são os da British Airways que ligam Londres a outros destinos europeus.

UK flights hit by computer glitch
Flights to and from UK airports are being cancelled and delayed because of a computer problem at the main air traffic control centre at Swanwick.
Departures have been suspended and arrivals delayed at Luton airport due to air traffic control restrictions.
Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports have also reported delays, along with Cardiff, Bristol, Southampton, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Air traffic controllers said they hoped to restore the system by early evening.
National Air Traffic Services (Nats) said engineers were investigating the cause of the computer fault at the London Area Control Centre, which deals with planes flying over the south east of England.
The London Terminal Control Centre, also based in Swanwick which is responsible for landing and departing aircraft, is still operating fully but it is restricting departures due to the additional workload.
Nats said restrictions on take-offs and landings had been introduced to ensure passenger safety while controllers operated manual systems at reduced capacity.
BBC transport correspondent Tom Symonds said the problems stemmed from a glitch with computers which deal with information about flights when they are at higher altitude.
Air traffic controllers could still see where planes were, but were finding it difficult to identify them, he said.
This has resulted in a reduced flow of aircraft from airports, with planes at Heathrow leaving every two minutes rather than every 90 seconds.
Flight cancellations
Luton airport has so far cancelled seven European flights to Budapest, Lisbon, Zurich, Barcelona, Berlin, Amsterdam and Dortmund.
Flights from Cardiff International Airport were also temporarily halted by the fault, a spokeswoman said.
“All flights are currently grounded, inbound and outbound. We are not entirely sure at the moment when they are going to be back up and running,” she added.
A spokesman for Manchester Airport said some European and international flights had been affected as they were routed to fly over south east of England.
A spokesman for airport operator BAA, which runs Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Southampton airports, said “many UK airports” would be affected by the problem.
“Aircraft continue to land and depart, however the process is slower than normal, which means that inevitably, some flights will be delayed and some will be cancelled,” he said.
“We are working hard with the airlines to minimise disruption and restore the operation as quickly as possible.”
British Airways says it is cancelling “a few” short haul flights to domestic and European destinations from Heathrow.
Airport authorities have advised passengers to contact their airlines before travelling.

Lisboa, 17 Set (Lusa) – As partes envolvidas no “caso Martinair”, relativo ao avião acidentado em Faro em que morreram 56 pessoas, pediram a “prorrogação do prazo do julgamento para 13 de Outubro”, disse hoje à Lusa fonte ligada ao processo.
O julgamento deste caso, relativo ao avião acidentado no Aeroporto de Faro em 1992 em que também mais de 100 ficaram feridas, “está suspenso a pedido das partes”, que pediram a prorrogação do prazo, explicou a mesma fonte.
Durante a sessão que decorreu a 10 de Setembro as partes já tinham solicitado ao colectivo de três juízes a suspensão do julgamento, tendo ficado marcado inicialmente para 22 de Setembro uma nova audiência.
Segundo a mesma fonte, “as partes [Martinair e seguradoras contra a Aeroportos de Portugal e seguradoras] acordaram anteriormente pedir a suspensão do julgamento”, estando agora “agendado para dia 13 de Outubro a comunicação da decisão dos envolvidos” aos juízes do Tribunal Administrativo de Círculo de Lisboa, presidido pela juíza Guida Jorge.

Aviação civil britânica viabiliza aviões para repatriar turistas
A autoridade de aviação civil britânica anunciou que está a viabilizar 94 aviões para repatriar milhares de pessoas em todo o mundo, das quais mais de 700 a partir do Algarve, depois da falência anunciada sexta-feira pelo operador turístico XL Leisure Group.
Recorde-se, o operador turístico britânico declarou falência na sexta-feira dia 12 de Setembro, e cancelou todos os voos, deixando cerca de 740 passageiros no Algarve, segundo os dados da gestora aeroportuária portuguesa ANA.
A autoridade de aviação civil britânica (Civil Aviation Authority) diz que o repatriamento de todos os passageiros, estimados em cerca de 50 mil (30 mil ainda em férias) vai durar pelo menos duas semanas.
Em Portugal a companhia charter do XL Leisure Group, a homónima XL, operava apenas para o aeroporto de Faro. No ano passado o grupo transportou 80 mil passageiros para Faro e este ano cerca de 50 mil, também de acordo com os dados da ANA.
O abrandamento económico e a subida de preço dos combustíveis terão sido fatais para a empresa.
Stranded Britons returning to UK
Passengers stranded when tour operator XL collapsed have started arriving back in the UK, after aviation authorities arranged planes for their collection.
Thousands of passengers have been returning to UK airports on specially chartered flights and on scheduled flights with spare seats.
XL’s 21 planes were grounded on Friday, leaving some 90,000 people abroad.
The CAA said 12,000 people had so far been brought home on 52 relief flights to the UK.
One estimate suggests a total of 450 flights will be needed to repatriate the rest of the stranded passengers.
This could take several weeks.
The BBC’s James Shaw, at Gatwick, said many of those who had managed to return during Friday night and Saturday morning were “tired and frustrated” after the anxiety of the last 24 hours, but also “relieved to be home”.
The airlines operating the returning flights include BA, Monarch and Astraeus, which flew in from destinations including Tenerife, Orlando and Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt.
The lead singer of Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickinson, who works as a pilot for the UK charter airline Astraeus, flew a plane back to the UK from Sharm El Sheikh. He said people had given up leave to get a crew together for the flight.
In Alicante about 522 passengers had been stranded after three flights to Glasgow, Gatwick and Manchester were cancelled.
Many have now found their own way home, but a replacement flight was also chartered by the CAA.
The 747 was due to pick up 33 passengers from Tenerife before boarding about 200 of those left stranded in Alicante, and flying on to Gatwick overnight.
At a cost of £175, there will also be further seats available on the flight for those not protected by the Air Travel Organisers’ Licensing (Atol) scheme which covers overseas package tour passengers.
Those who were due to fly into airports other than Gatwick will be bussed to their final destinations.
The CAA has also been chartering planes from airlines including British Airways, Easyjet and Thomson.
A number of airlines also said they had offered assistance to passengers stranded by the collapse of XL.
The decision to place XL Leisure Group into administration has left thousands of staff facing the axes.
XL chairman Phil Wyatt has said the company’s entire 1,700 UK workforce could be at risk.
XL flies to about 50 destinations. There are about 67,000 people stranded who booked directly with XL, and another 23,000 who booked via other companies.
The CAA also said the firm had 200,000 advance bookings.
Spokesman David Clover said package deals were covered by the CAA’s Air Travel Organisers’ Licensing scheme and those customers will be offered repatriation flights or their money back if they have an advance booking.
However, those who booked flights only with the airline or XL.com – about 10,000, according to the CAA – will have to pay to get home, although the CAA has offered to sell them any spare tickets at cost price.
Anyone yet to take their flights should check their insurance policies, and with their banks or credit card companies about refunds, it advises.
‘Weaker players’
There is now widespread speculation that other airlines may be about to follow in XL’s wake and go bust.
“I think there will be more failures, sadly, in the months to come,” said aviation expert John Strickland of JLS Consulting.
Passengers returning from Sharm el Sheikh
On Saturday, an official from Italy’s national carrier Alitalia warned it may have to cancel some flights because of a lack of funds to buy fuel.
Virgin head Sir Richard Branson has called for a review of the rules governing airlines.
He said planes grounded by the failure of their parent companies should be allowed to fly under the watch of the aviation regulator.
He claimed this would reduce disruption across the industry.
“It does not make sense for aircraft to be lying idle at UK airports when they should be used to bring back stranded passengers of that airline,” he said.
Bob Atkinson, of online price comparison site Travelsupermarket.com, said there had been a surge in prices over the past 24 hours, in particular for flights during holiday periods such as Christmas.

XL Airways, one of the UK’s largest charter airlines, has collapsed. XL Leisure Group declared bankruptcy early today having failed to secure a rescue package amid deep financial difficulties. In a statement on its website, the group said it had been hit by rising fuel costs and the credit crunch. The firm is Britain’s third biggest tour operator and flies to 50 destinations, mainly in the Mediterranean and Caribbean. It flew 2.3 million British families abroad last year, and an estimated 85,000 holiday makers have been left stranded as a result of the collapse.

Ryanair vende três milhões de bilhetes a um euro

Até à meia noite do próximo domingo é possível encontrar no sítio da companhia de baixo custo irlandesa Ryanair (www.ryanair.com) três milhões de bilhetes com a tarifa de apenas um euro.
Com a sua já habitual agressividade comercial, a empresa anunciou a nova “promoção de Inverno” com a qual pretende garantir que continua a encher a sua frota de aviões, em todas as mais de 740 rotas que opera na Europa e no Norte de África. A partir de Portugal opera 25 rotas, a partir do aeroporto do Porto (de onde parte para 14 destinos) e de Faro. A tarifa de um euro já tem “todas as taxas e encargos incluídos”, afirmou hoje no Porto o responsavel pelo marketing e vendas de Portugal e Espanha, Luiz Fernandez.
“Depois da era dos preços a baixo custo, agora segue-se o período aos preços mais baixos de sempre”, afirmou, garantindo que a companhia mantém a promessa de nunca cobrar aos seus passageiros taxas de combustivel (a TAP cobra, neste momento, 35 euros) – não cobra esta taxa, mas pratica outras, como a prática de cobrar cinco euros por pessoa e por trajecto para pagamentos com cartão de crédito, a única forma de comprar bilhetes na Ryanair. Mesmo assim, os preços praticados são muito competitivos.
As tarifas a um euro devem ser adquiridas até à meia noite do proximo domingo, com a promoção a ser válida apenas nas viagens a realizar até ao próximo dia 31 de Outubro. “A conjuntura económica está difícil, mas queremos continuar a proporcionar a cada vez mais pessoas a possibilidade de viajar aos melhores preços. Enquanto as companhias tradicionais encerram rotas e aumentam as taxas, nós tentamos abrir mais rotas e encher os aviões”, afirmou Fernandez.
A partir do Porto, a Ryanair voa para Frankfurt Han, Londres Stansted, Liverpool, Dublin, Pisa, Marselha, Paris, Bruxelas Charleroi, Birmingham, Milão Bergamo, Valência, Bristol, Barcelona (Girona) e Madrid. De Faro, voa para Bruxelas, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt tem vários destinos nas ilhas britânicas: Liverpool, London Stansted, East Midlands, Glasgow, Dublin e Shannon.
A operar em Portugal desde 2003 (altura em que começou a voar para Faro), a Ryanair já movimentou 3,8 milhões de passageiros.

Martinair: Comandante do avião que aterrou antes do acidente assegura “total dependência da torre”
O comandante do último avião a aterrar no Aeroporto de Faro antes do acidente com o voo da companhia aérea Martinair em 1992 garantiu hoje em julgamento que os pilotos tinham “total dependência da torre de controlo durante a aterragem”.
A 21 de Dezembro de 1992 o comandante Chambom aterrou um avião Boeing no Aeroporto de Faro, minutos antes do acidente com o voo MP 495 da Martinair, tendo hoje garantido em tribunal que os pilotos estavam “totalmente dependentes das informações fornecidas pelo controlador aéreo”.
“Os instrumentos do avião (INS) são utilizados durante o voo”, a tripulação “não utiliza os instrumentos de indicação de vento para aterrar”, recebe as informações “prestadas pela torre de controlo”, afirmou a testemunha.
O julgamento deste processo, em que a Martinair pede uma indemnização de 125 milhões de euros à Aeroportos de Portugal (ANA) e às companhias seguradoras Tranquilidade, Global e Império, por alegada falta de informação sobre as condições meteorológicas que se faziam sentir no momento do acidente, iniciou-se terça-feira no Tribunal Administrativo de Circulo de Lisboa, com dezenas de testemunhas arroladas.
O comandante do Boeing explicou ainda que não recebeu qualquer informação de mau tempo que o levasse a cancelar a aterragem, depois de ter sido confrontado pelo advogado da Martinair Magalhães e Silva, com o facto de na altura um comandante da TAP “ter comunicado via rádio que estava a atravessar uma tempestade”.
Em contraposição, Alves Pereira, advogado da Aeroportos de Portugal (ANA), lembrou que o mesmo comandante do Boeing registou uma quebra de velocidade do vento de “20 para cinco nós durante a aproximação final” da aeronave à pista do Aeroporto de Faro.
O comandante do Boeing explicou que à altitude a que se encontrava, a cerca de 2.000 pés, a “alteração de vento era normal”, de acordo com as condições atmosféricas verificadas.
Durante a audiência, marcada por questões técnicas relacionadas com aeronáutica e que decorreu com tradução simultânea em inglês, o colectivo de juízes resolveu nomear dois especialistas nacionais em aviação para colaborarem com o tribunal.
Durante a sessão, o advogado da Martinair salientou que as condições meteorológicas registadas às 08:33, hora do acidente, eram de visibilidade reduzida, aguaceiros convectivos e céu encoberto acompanhado de trovoadas, devido a uma forte depressão vinda do Oceano Atlântico.
O acidente ocorreu no Aeroporto de Faro, com um avião DC-10 do operador Martinair Holland, a 21 de Dezembro de 1992, com 340 pessoas a bordo, das quais 13 pertenciam à tripulação do aparelho, conforme consta do relatório do acidente.
Ainda de acordo com o relatório 22/ACCID/GPI/92, do Gabinete de Prevenção e Investigação de Acidentes, o acidente vitimou 56 pessoas, registou 106 feridos graves e 178 feridos ligeiros ou ilesos.

A Martinair está-se a ver “à rasca” desde que largou as rotas europeias. Agora, quase 16 anos depois vem pedir dinheiro e responsabilizar pessoas por algo que a companhia fez. O que pretendo dizer com isto é que o piloto fez varias tentativas para aterrar sobre tempo extremo, a partida de Amesterdão já havia sido atrasada devido a falhas no reverso de um dos motores e quem tem culpa: Controladores de Tráfego Aéreo em Faro e Aeroporto de Faro!
A Martinair devia perder o processo e devia era fechar portas e ter vergonha, por estar a assumir uma nova posição face ao acidente. A Martinair havia concordado com o relatório holandês que culpabilizava o piloto por tentar aterrar em tempo extremo, que levava a aeronave das suas limitações, por haver um fenómeno de windshear e microburst súbitos e imprevisíveis. Mas não agora quem irá pagar será a ANA e os CTA’s!
Só digo isto: Martinair vai-te foder e tenham vergonha!!!!
Isto mexe comigo por ser plane spotter e por ver uma companhia ter uma atitude destas ao fim de tanto tempo. Perdoe-me se não gostarem deste comentário e pela linguagem nele utilizado mas é assim que vivo roubalheiras e injustiças cometidas contra o “meu” aeroporto. E atenção eu vivi o acidente lembro-me da correria de ambulâncias e bombeiros que foi nesse dia. Lembro-me do dia horrível que estava e a chuva e vento que estava. Posso ter apenas 19 anos mas lembro-me!

A companhia de aviação Martinair pede uma indemnização de 125 milhões de euros à Aeroportos de Portugal, alegando que esta empresa “não forneceu dados meteorológicos à tripulação” do avião acidentado em Faro em 1992, no qual morreram 54 pessoas.
O acidente aéreo “podia ter sido evitado, se a Aeroportos de Portugal (ANA) tivesse fornecido indicações correctas à tripulação”, explicou à Agência Lusa o advogado que representa a Martinair, Manuel Magalhães e Silva, no intervalo da audiência que teve início esta segunda-feira no Tribunal Administrativo de Círculo de Lisboa, dezasseis anos depois do acidente.
Manuel Magalhães e Silva adiantou que os dados meteorológicos entregues anteriormente aos pilotos “não correspondiam aos ventos da pista onde o avião ia aterrar [pista 11]“, mas sim “da pista 29, que excediam largamente a capacidade operacional do avião”.
Durante a parte da manhã, a Martinair chamou a primeira de sete testemunhas, John Mccarthy, um cientista norte-americano ligado aos fenómenos meteorológicos e investigador do acidente que ocorreu em Faro.
O cientista afirmou que, de acordo com os fenómenos meteorológicos verificados a 21 de Dezembro de 1992, data do desastre e àquela hora (08:33), a tripulação “não podia evitar o acidente, sem dados correctos”, fornecidos pelos controladores de voo, explicando os valores de chuva, ventos, trovoadas, velocidades e outros fenómenos climatéricos registados.
O especialista explicou ao tribunal que “o fenómono meteorológico verificado ‘Microburst” – grande turbulência com ventos descendentes muito fortes’ não foi transmitido à tripulação”, conforme os registos das caixas negras, a que o cientista afirmou que teve acesso.
O estudioso norte-americano afirmou ainda que “o ‘Microburst’ já foi responsável por vários acidentes aéreos em todo o mundo”.
A Lusa falou com o advogado da ANA, José Alves Pereira, e o das seguradoras, José Drago, tendo ambos recusado fornecer “qualquer informação” sobre o desenrolar desta acção judicial e alegando que “não podem falar sobre este assunto”.
O processo cujo julgamento teve hoje início opõe a Martinair e as seguradoras da empresa contra a Aeroportos de Portugal e respectivas seguradoras, sendo julgado por um colectivo de três juízes, presidido pela juíza Guida Jorge.
O voo MP 495 da Martinair teve origem no Aeroporto de Amsterdão, no dia 21 de Dezembro de 1992, tendo levantado às 05:35 com destino ao Aeroporto de Faro, tendo o acidente ocorrido às 08:33, quando aterrava.
O aparelho DC 10 transportava 340 pessoas, 13 das quais tripulantes. Morreram 54 pessoas e centenas ficaram feridas. O julgamento deste processo, que já conta com mais de 65 volumes, prossegue durante toda esta semana.

Agosto regista crescimento de passageiros
O tráfego comercial no Aeroporto de Faro registou no mês de Agosto -0,3% em movimentos e mais +1,5% em passageiros comerciais(incluindo trânsitos), comparativamente a período homólogo do ano anterior. A evolução positiva no tráfego de passageiros continua a ser suportado pela operação regular/low-cost que regista uma variação acumulada em 2008, de 12,1%.
Ao nível de mercados, destaque para o aumento de passageiros com origem/destino Holanda com +3,2% e ainda a evolução positiva registada nos quatro principais mercados.
Os destinos de Londres e Amsterdão aumentaram o volume de passageiros em 3,6% e 3,4%, respectivamente, relativamente ao mês homólogo do ano anterior. A easyJet e a Transavia continuam a registar os maiores crescimentos de tráfego entre as principais companhias aéreas a operar no Aeroporto de Faro.

An emergency that ended safely (The faulty engine was shutted down and no bigger problem!) The aircraft is a bmi Airbus A321.
All the ARFF trucks followed the aircraft until it’s parking position and until all people disembarked they were near the aircraft.

Um avião que transportava 210 passageiros da companhia aérea Thomas Cook, com destino às Canárias, aterrou hoje de emergência no Aeroporto de Faro, disse à Agência Lusa fonte da ANA.
A aeronave, um Boeing 757, aterrou de emergência em Faro cerca das 12:45 mas tudo “correu com normalidade”, de acordo com fonte da ANA, empresa que gere os aeroportos portugueses.
A mesma fonte acrescenta que o voo transportava passageiros do Reino Unido ao arquipélago das Canárias e que o pedido de aterragem em Faro faz parte da “actividade normal dos aeroportos”.
“Quando o comandante detecta alguma situação que não estava prevista pede para aterrar no aeroporto mais próximo e foi o que aconteceu”, sublinhou.
A aterragem de emergência do voo de ligação às Canárias acontece uma semana depois do desastre em Madrid, que envolveu um avião da Spanair cujo destino era aquele arquipélago espanhol.

Ryanair abre novas rotas
Faro – Dusseldorf, Faro – Liverpool e Faro – East Midlands são as apostas da Ryanair.
A Ryanair anunciou, esta semana, a abertura de uma nova rota para Dusseldorf (Weeze), que começa a operar a partir do dia 28 de Outubro. Trata-se da 9ª rota a partir de Faro que vai contar com três frequências semanais, às terças, quintas-feiras e sábados.
Refira-se, Dusseldorf é a capital do estado da Renânia do Norte – Westfália, uma zona com grande densidade populacional e considerada um dos centros económicos mais importantes da Alemanha.
Para celebrar o lançamento da nova rota, a Ryanair anuncia a venda de bilhetes a partir de 33 euros que podem ser reservados em www.ryanair.com.

O aumento da capacidade é só uma das obras de um investimento total de 25 milhões de euros.
“As obras servirão para aumentar o número de posições para estacionamento de aeronaves e melhorar as condições de segurança”, afirmou Correia Mendes, director do aeroporto, ao Correio da Manhã.
Segundo o matutino, o maior investimento, de 18,5 milhões, vai incidir especificamente à ampliação e requalificação de infra-estruturas de construção civil do sistema ILS-DME da pista 10, que apoia a aterragem dos aviões.
Algumas plataformas serão alargadas, bem como a construção de duas saídas rápidas de pista.
A ANA-Aeroportos de Portugal, ainda vai investir 2,5 milhões em novas instalações da Portway e 1,7 milhões em centrais térmicas.

“Segurança efectiva” no Aeroporto de Faro
Ministro inaugurou novas instalações da PSP
O ministro da Administração Interna, Rui Pereira, presidiu esta segunda-feira à inauguração das novas instalações da PSP no Aeroporto Internacional de Faro. O ministro considera, “estão reunidas as condições para uma segurança muito efectiva”.
“Esta é uma obra muito importante para o Algarve, pois permite garantir maior segurança a esta região de grande procura turística, uma actividade determinante no plano económico e para o seu desenvolvimento”, referiu Rui Pereira.
A nova Divisão de Segurança Aeroportuária corresponde a um investimento de um milhão de euros, integra um efectivo de 83 elementos e oito viaturas. A construção teve início em 2000, tendo sido suspensa um ano, na sequência da situação de falência registada pela empresa construtora. Reiniciada em Abril de 2007, a obra ficou concluída em Junho deste ano.
Reiterando a sua “total confiança na PSP”, Rui Pereira aproveitou para elogiar aquela força de segurança pela “abnegação, competência e heroísmo” que levaram à detenção, no dia 27, em Abrantes, de cinco elementos suspeitos de agressão e roubo contra dois agentes.
Adaptadas às necessidades dos profissionais da PSP, tanto em termos arquitectónicos como funcionais, as instalações, para além da missão na vertente aeroportuária, possuem capacidade para integrar uma Esquadra de competência genérica, para policiamento convencional a meios urbanos.

Voos low-cost crescem no Aeroporto de Faro
O Aeroporto de Faro obteve, no mês de Junho, quando comparado com o mesmo mês do ano passado, um aumento de 9 por cento nos passageiros regulares, sendo que o segmento low-cost foi o que mais cresceu, com uma subida de 16.1 por cento.
No entanto, estes valores não permitem compensar as perdas noutras vertentes, particularmente no tráfego charter, que caiu 19.6 por cento. O saldo de movimentos comerciais também foi negativo e baixou 2.3 por cento.
Os destinos que registaram maiores subidas de passageiros foram a Irlanda e a Holanda, sendo que as viagens para o Reino Unido baixaram.

On the month of June, Faro Airport obtained, when in comparison with the same month from last year (2007), an increase of 9 per cent on regular passenger, but the low cost segment was who most grown, with an raise of 16.1 per cent.

Como se pode ver por esta imagem do radar aqui está o A380 em rota ascendente. de volta a casa após testes.

Hello. So today, 25th of June has passed over Portugal the biggest aircraft in the world: the Airbus A380. It was on route to Canary Islands via Sagres VOR and camed back from Canary Islands passing very near Faro Airport and Faro VOR (in altitude of course).
As you can see by this radar image, here is A380 in ascending route back to home after some tests.

Good morning.
So I was searching on the aviation foruns where I participare and I saw this:
Between 13/06 and 19/09 Pulkovo will operate Faro with a Tupolev Tu-214.
There are few news about this flight and routes operated by Pulkovo to Faro, only that the arrival to Faro will be at 06:05 and departure at 07:15
Information by Luís Rosa on forum Portugalspotters.org.
So I am awaiting more news about this. As soon as I know I’ll keep you informed.

Commercial traffic rose at Faro Airport.
Faro Airport registered, on April this year, a raise of 2.3 percent in commercial traffic movements and 4.8 per cent on regular scheduled passenger movements.
The United Kingdom market was the one who rose more, registering more than 4.1 per cent on traffic movements, as the London links raised 5.8 percent.

Something funny happened with this Ryanair. The pilot is Brazilian so he asked the Tower in Portuguese if he could have a box with seven “Pasteis de Belém” or “Pastéis de Nata”. He also said that he has money to pay them to the ATC who bought the “Pastéis de Nata”. So the Tower replied that it would expect but with no guarantees…
A nice and funny episode that was concluded by ground operations and off frequency…
By the way, the weather is good and warm, the wind is a bit annoying and strong but if it calms and it continues like this, warm, well Sunday will be another spotting day.

Hello. So a new event will happen!! Portimão Air Festival 2008!!
On the riverside of Portimão there will be so much activity. It will have flight simulation, airplane modelling exhibition, climbing and rappel will also make presence.
The police dogs will also make some demonstration of their skills.
From 15 hours local time the show will begin with the parachutes falling from the sky. Next the breath taking action and speed from the jet planes, with Breitling Jet Team, the only civilian aerobatic squadron.
Portuguese Air Force will bring their squadron “Rotores de Portugal” with the Alouette III. The Lynx helicopters from Portuguese Army will also be present.
Then propeller planes enter the show! With Team Guinot Ballerina Duo on the wings of Boeing Stearman in death defying equilibrium, the Portuguese squadron Smokewings and their two Yak 52, the world champions Ramón Alonso and Svetlana Kapanina and Portuguese team G-Flight on the Extra 300.
Demonstrations will also be performed by: Agroar and their chemical clearing and firefighting habilities; the search and rescue from sea by Portuguese EH-101 Merlin Helicopters and naval procedures.
So from 25th until 27th of April there is going to be a lot of activity in Portimão.
If you can, go there and enjoy it because it will certainly worth it.

And a breaking news: The Breitling Team will arrive tomorrow (24 April) at 18:30 at Faro Airport with 7 aircrafst instead of the usual 6!!!
Hello. News from my home airport: LPFR (Faro).
So, Tuesday 22nd April, easyJet will start a new route: Faro-Glasgow.
The arrival at Faro is scheduled to 10h50 and departure from Faro scheduled to 11h20. A traditional water canon salute by the airport firefighters is expected to happen.
STAR Tour (Britannia Sweden or TUIFly Nordic as you wish) will also re-start their routes.
So the summer schedule for Faro is slowly becoming active, as the airlines are starting their routes.
A fellow spotter, Paulo Carvalho, told me that a new airline passed by Faro with a white MD. The airliner’s name is Mesopotamia Air and it seems to be from Iraq. The aircraft seems to be (or it seems that it was) from Flightline.
So if any further news comes out, I’ll keep you informed.

The weather just got bad and by what I’ve heard it is going to be worse!!
So until further advised no spotting is in my mind, unless the weather gets a little bit better

Hello. More news from Faro. Aurela will have a B737 and B752 operations, Transaero are expected to operate a B742 (747-200).
Aer Arann will also fly to Faro. Aigle Azur, Transavia France, Ryanair, Blue Line and Europe Airpost will also have new routes now operating.
New at Faro will be Blue Air of Jordania (sadly for spotters operating at night), Jet Tran Air (Tuesdays in the morning). Centralwings will be more often at Faro, specially Fridays at night (3 flights!).
Sadly Martinair will not fly to Faro but instead a new company, Amsterdam Airlines.
GB is now owned by easyJet so we have British Airways back.
helvetic had slots to Faro but cancelled, so Air Berlin will make the flights
Fisher Air Polska ceased operations (sadly) and last year thaks to this company we had a Lockheed Martin Tristar 500, and many other aircrafts. Now making this flight wil be Air Italy Polska.
Volareweb and Estonian Air are expected to operate at Faro as well.
XL Airways and ArkeFly will bring some B739 (Boeing 737-900)
Four other great companies (Viking, JetX, Smartwings and Axis Airways) will also operate and certainlly spotters will be there to take some photos.
Futura, Futura Gael, Flightline, Jetairfly, Luxair, CSA Czech Airlines will be also back.
Swiss flights are now scheduled instead of charter!
And my favourite company: bmi british midland will have more flights!

São elas: Europe Airpost, Blue Line e a melhor que em principio será saudado com “water salute”: a Transavia France. Sim porque é o inicio de rotas e desta companhia em Faro.

No domingo dia 23-03-2008 irei ao Aeroporto para mais uma spottada. Estão todos convidados a participar se a meteorologia assim o permitir.
Em principio será ao pé da saída de emergência dos Bombeiros, saída esta que fica de frente para o TWY D.

Boa noite. Novidades desde o Aeroporto de Faro.
Hoje decidi ir ao aeroporto uma vez que estamos no período de crescimento do Aeroporto de Faro.
De entre os registos que vi destaque para o GB Airways totalmente branco de registo G-TTOJ, uma vez que esta foi adquirida pela easyJet e para o SATA International A310 de registo CS-TKM.

Olá. O meu nome é Manuel e tenho 19 anos. Sou fanático por aviões e desde 2003 que vou ver os aviões ao aeroporto.
Comecei por fotografar com uma velinha 35mm e hoje dedico-me a filmar com uma Panasonic.
O meu interesse começou em 1999 quando os meus pais, em férias, e visto ter casa na praia de Faro me começaram a explicar as companhias e cores. O “meu” avião era a Caledonian e hoje o “meu” avião é a bmi.
Na altura a aviação era muito bonita, e tudo era desconhecido para mim e nunca pensaria que hoje poderia ser plane spotter e conhecer grandes nomes como Luis Rosa, Diedrick, Bruno Pires, entre outros.
Espero que este blog seja do vosso agrado porque eu vou fazer tudo para que seja.
